PRESENT ON THE GLOBAL STAGE
This Code of Conduct applies to all spaces and activities associated with the CloudStack Collaboration Conference, including but not limited to the in-person event, workshops, social events, online sessions, conference platforms, email communications, social media channels, and any other official communication spaces related to the conference.
We expect all participants, speakers, sponsors, exhibitors, volunteers and attendees to uphold this Code of Conduct at all times during the conference and in all related interactions. This includes behaviour before, during and after the event when representing or engaging with the CloudStack Collaboration Conference community.
This Code of Conduct is not intended to be exhaustive. It reflects our shared commitment to creating a respectful, collaborative and inclusive environment. Participants are expected to follow both the spirit and the letter of these guidelines to ensure a positive experience for everyone.
We strive to:
Be open. The CloudStack Collaboration Conference welcomes participation from anyone interested in the CloudStack ecosystem. We encourage open, respectful dialogue and the use of appropriate public forums or channels where relevant. When sensitive matters arise, discretion and care should be used.
Be empathetic, welcoming, friendly and patient. We work together with the assumption of good intent. Disagreements may occur, but they should never result in personal attacks or hostile behaviour. A respectful environment is essential for productive discussion and collaboration.
Be collaborative. The conference exists to share knowledge, experiences and ideas. Participants are encouraged to help one another learn and grow and to explain concepts openly so others can build on them. Decisions, actions and discussions should take into account their impact on the wider community.
Be inquisitive. No one knows everything. Asking questions and seeking clarification is encouraged. Those responding to questions should do so thoughtfully and constructively with the shared goal of advancing understanding of CloudStack and related technologies.
Be careful with your words. All participants are expected to communicate professionally and respectfully. Harassment or exclusionary behaviour is not acceptable. This includes but is not limited to:
– Violent threats or language directed at any individual
– Sexist, racist or otherwise discriminatory jokes or language
– Sexually explicit or violent material
– Sharing or threatening to share another person’s private or identifying information
– Sharing private communications without consent
– Personal insults or derogatory remarks
– Unwelcome sexual attention
– Excessive or aggressive profanity
– Repeated harassment or intimidation
– Encouraging or defending any of the above behaviour
If someone asks you to stop a particular behaviour or line of discussion, you must respect that request.
Be concise and considerate. Many people will read or hear your contributions. Clear and thoughtful communication helps everyone. When longer explanations are necessary, consider summarising key points to improve understanding.
Stay on topic. Especially in longer discussions or sessions, keeping conversations focused helps maintain value for all participants.
Step down considerately. If a speaker, volunteer or organiser is unable to continue in their role, they should communicate clearly and respectfully and help ensure continuity where possible. Likewise, the community should respect an individual’s decision to disengage.
The CloudStack Collaboration Conference welcomes and encourages participation from everyone. We are committed to creating an environment where all attendees feel respected, safe and valued.
We welcome participants of all ages, cultures, ethnicities, genders, gender identities and expressions, languages, nationalities, neurotypes, abilities, professions, backgrounds, beliefs and levels of technical experience.
While we welcome many languages, the primary language of the conference is English.
This Code of Conduct defines the standards of behaviour expected at the CloudStack Collaboration Conference. All participants share responsibility for upholding these standards and for helping others do the same.
We recognise that misunderstandings and mistakes can happen. In many cases, a polite and respectful reminder of this Code of Conduct is sufficient. Such reminders may be made publicly or privately, depending on the situation and should always remain respectful.
Assume good faith wherever possible. Most issues arise from a lack of awareness rather than malicious intent.
If a situation cannot be resolved informally or if behaviour is serious or repeated, you are encouraged to report it confidentially to the conference organisers. Reports will be handled discreetly and taken seriously. You can contact the event organisers via: info@cloudstackcollab.org
For the purposes of this Code of Conduct, empathy is understood as the ability to consider and understand the perspectives, experiences and feelings of others.
This Code of Conduct draws inspiration from established open source and community event codes of conduct and has been adapted specifically for the CloudStack Collaboration Conference.
